Purchase and renovate 128 Montague Street which will become the first permanent facility for CSS allowing them to provide a stable and safe location for Chabad activities with revenue from a commercial space on the ground floor and income from living quarters for fifteen to twenty students. The facility will also house Rabbi Eliyahu, Shaindy, and their four children.
CSS serves as a "home away from home" for jewish students, faculty and administrators for the universities and law school located in downtown Brooklyn. We play an important role which has become increasingly vital during this time of growing antisemitism on campuses. We offer a variety of social, educational, and spiritual programs and provide a safe-space for gatherings and support. Throughout the college journey, where students encounter new ideas, CSS endeavors to ensure that students emerge more resilient and empowered than when they first arrived.
Rabbi Eliyahu Raskin and his wife Shaindy started CSS in 2016 with a strong passion to improve the lives of Jews and built upon Rabbi Eliyahu’s local experience having grown up in Brooklyn Heights where his father was the spiritual leader and head rabbi for B’nai Avraham on Remsen Street. Rabbi Eliyahu and Shaindy currently serve approximately three hundred students out of a potential Jewish student and faculty population of nearly four thousand. Our schools include LIU, CUNY’s City Tech, St. Francis, NYU Tandon, and Brooklyn Law School. Roughly 80% of our community lives, works and studies within a 15 minute walk to CSS’s new facility at 128 Montague Street.
